In the previous post “December Double Trouble – part two” I introduced a shawl pattern I made up, and I have have now finished the main body of the shawl. I think it came out pretty nice! Since I ended up needing to buy a second ball of self stripping yarn to complete the pattern I was worried the fact there were two different dye lots would cause problems, but now that the piece is complete I don’t think the difference is terribly noticeable. I’m sure if you really looked you could see that the shades are just a little off, but most people who aren’t knitters are probably not going to be giving the shawl that much scrutiny.
I had some difficulty with the finishing row, mostly because I wasn’t exactly sure how I wanted to finish the pattern off. When I make another pattern I’m probably going to want to have a plan already in place, rather than flying by the seat of my pants the way I did this time. The trouble with being a procrastinator is that your previous indecision always catches up to you in the end. I eventually decided on simply knitting the last few rows and binding off.
Currently I am trying to decide whether or not I want to put an edge on the shawl. I think an edge could look nice, the problem is that with the rows where I added and dropped stitches there are long strands that I’m not certain would really work with an edge. Technically I could probably work around it by putting a chain / skipping the sections but I don’t think it would look as good as leaving it with just the edge it has right now.
I’m not on a time crunch so I’ll likely think about it . If I change my mind I’ll make a short update on how it looks after adding the border, but for now I am tentatively marking the pattern as done.
