New Year Resolution: Going Swimmingly

At the new year I gave myself a pretty simple resolution: actually doing some needle point embroidery patterns. I’ve done cross-stitch for years and thought about doing needlepoint but always felt too overwhelmed to actually start. That changes this year.

The first pattern I’ve started with is pretty simple – just a chain stitch and a back-stitch. Technically this is supposed to be just one fish but I wanted to practice my embroidery more and I thought it would be cool to have a trio of primary color-ish fish.

The only thing I wish I could change is inverting the color on the white fish. I put down the yellow scales and then put the white outline and fins on the fish, and by the time I realized the white would be too close to the color of the cloth I was already committed. Technically speaking I could have ripped it all out and started over but I really didn’t want to.

I’ve gotten the piece set up in a hoop and I’ll be hanging it up in my room once I can get a hanger for it. It’s a simple start as far as embroidery goes but I like how it turned out and I thing it’s good to start simple. Much better than trying to start with something too complicated and giving up.
