So, I’m working on a new baby blanket and I’ve decided that rather than making every post numerical (baby blanket 3, baby blanket 4 etc) I’ll just start giving the baby blanket nicknames. I usually end up doing that anyway, so why not carry those nicknames over to the posts? I’ve nicknamed this one Forest Moss due to the dark green color of the blanket and the Irish moss stitch that is used for the main blanket body.
I got the pattern from https://thisyellowfarmhouse.com/baby-blanket-knitting-pattern-for-beginners/#google_vignette but unlike the other blogger who was sensible and used a chunky weight yarn and larger needles I’ve decided to use a worsted weight yarn and size 7 needles for this project. This means that I ended up casting on 104 stitches to get the size I wanted. I will be spending a lot longer to make this blanket than the blog suggested but I like the way the blanket looks, so that is something.
In the picture there is a little yellow stitch marker that you may be able to see, I added that because I was having difficulty remembering where I was in the pattern after I put the blanket down for a little while. not something you want to have happen when doing a moss stitch since the pattern changes every other row. I decided to place the marker so that I would have an easier time in remembering when to switch the starting stitch from knit to purl.
Since I’m still just at the very start I’ll likely come back in a few months with an update post showing the blanket once it’s finished and with an update on how the knitting went, but for now I’m really enjoying just knitting. The simple knitting pattern is good for taking your mind off the holiday bustle and enjoy the few minutes of free time that come once the parties and family gatherings are over.
