Baby Blanket: Cherry Square

Because I have no chill, and I have the yarn, I have decided to work on another baby blanket. You will probably recognize this yarn from before when I was making the tulip lace baby blanket last year. I had so much yarn left over from that one I decided to try and make another blanket with the remaining yarn. I doubt that I’ll have anything left after this one is done but we’ll have to find out.

(You will likely also notice my stitches are currently being held on a piece of string. That is because I needed the size 7 36” circular needle I have been using for this blanket for another time sensitive project. Hopefully the yarn will be back on their needles by next week, but for now they are chilling on a double length of bulky yarn.)

I decided to try a basket weave pattern after working on the Irish moss stitch and I am really liking the way it looks. I would like to do another baby blanket with a similar pattern, but I am aware enough of my own abilities that rather than taking on too many projects at once I will be waiting to finish the projects I currently have.

I likely won’t be putting an edge on this blanket, as I like how the garter stitch border is turning out and I think putting anything else on the edge would be too busy. I am toying with the idea of finishing the edges with another color from my yarn stash but it will depend on how the blanket looks once I’m finished with it. The main reason for putting an edge on it would be to add a little contrast to the dark color but if the extra yarn makes it look even more busy than I will likely skip it.

This is another project you will likely seeing a second time once I manage to finish it. I may put it up with the first blanket, just to see how the two patterns compare with the same yarn. if nothing else it should make it a little more interesting than just putting the same blanket up and saying “look, it’s done!”
