Baby Blanket Two

Following the vein of the last post we have the baby blanket I am currently working on! This is a tulip lace blanket with a moss stitch border, I have a link at the end of the post showing where I found the blanket pattern. I cast on a few extra stitches than the pattern asked for because I wanted this blanket to be a little larger than the pattern was made for (29”).

The yarn I am using is Red Hearts super saver worsted Acrylic yarn in the color Burgundy. I chose the yarn specifically because it is machine washable. Whenever I make a baby blanket I make sure that the yarn I am using is machine washable and dryable (this usually means acrylic). I figure that if I’m giving someone something for a baby I should make it as low maintenance as possible. If they have a baby to worry about the last thing they need is to be trying to remember the special care instructions on a baby blanket.

I also chose this yarn because the yarn had a good feel to it and I thought the color would make a good gender neutral blanket. As much as I love the pink and blue baby yarn, and I am a sucker for pastel, I feel like there are a lot of colors that would make fun blankets that fall out of the general “baby blanket pallet”. Add that to the fact that I am trying to keep a stock of blankets on hand without a specific baby in mind then its a good idea to try and keep blankets that are not for a specific gender in case I suddenly need three blankets for little girls.

I like the moss stitch border on the blanket because it means that I won’t have to do any extra edging on the blanket, like I am doing on the pinwheel blanket pictured in the last post. I could if I really wanted to, but I feel like the moss stitch makes a good enough border. On the pinwheel blanket I added the border mostly because the cast off knit edge just made me feel that the blanket looked unfinished.

I’m hoping that I’ll get this blanket finished in the next two weeks, but it depends on how much time I have to work on it. The pattern isn’t super hard (though I messed up the first few rows by miss reading the pattern like, four times -.-‘) so it’s pretty easy to get through once you get into a good rhythm.
