My embroidery resolution has continued and as time has gone on I have found that I have a pretty notable stitch preferences. I think that’s pretty common in most hobbies, there is always something that will be easier for someone to do one thing rather than another, and I’ve seen it in both my knitting and crochet projects.
Most of the stitches I do like tend to be pretty simple so far, like chain or backstitch. Out of all the stitches I’ve tries I think I like satin stitch the best, though that may be just due to the fact that I haven’t had a chance to work with other types of stiches as often. I like the way it can fill out a section of a needlepoint piece, and can do it pretty quickly if you do it right. I had thought I would like using long and short stitches but I’m finding them more tedious than expected.
Of course, while there are preferences on what you like, they usually come with finding things you don’t like as well. What I have not found myself liking is the bullion stitch. It may be that I just need more practice with it, but I ran into similar issues when using french knots while doing cross stitch. There is just something about having to wrap the yarn around the needle and then secure it to the fabric – I just don’t like it. It’s exceptionally difficult with this pattern, as the bullion stitch is used for all the flower petals. Of course I didn’t realize how I felt about the bullion stitch before starting the piece, so now I’m slowly making my way through it. I’ve already had to take a break from the work and even once I get back to it I’m sure I’ll be taking another break just because of how many flowers the piece has.
I’ll make sure to show the finished version once it’s done, but that is likely going to be a long time coming.
