Fandom Fun: Having a Blast

Going back to fandom projects we have another from Legend of Zelda: Windwaker. A bomb flower!

In game, these flowers grow all over the islands and when you pick them up you have a brief time to move them before they blow up. These are much safer options, since the only thing that will happen if you throw them is yarn and stuffing bouncing off the target.

This crochet piece is done in multiple parts. The first part is the “bulb” of the bomb flower. Done in a dark blue yarn, it’s a modified ball shape that I adjusted to have a more gradual decrease at the top. I started stuffing the flower when I was partially finished with the decrease, then added more as I finished closing the neck so that it the bulb was the firmness I wanted. Once I had mostly finished the neck of the flower, I swapped to a bright yellow yarn to make the stamen of the flower. This got it’s own separate top that I sewed on to cover the finished stamen.

The petals on the flower were all made individually and swwn on together. The petals started with a magic circle of black yarn, then I added the white petal part to it in multiple rows. I figured keeping the pattern more “oval” like would help with the appearance of a petal.

Once all the pieces were done the flower was sewn together, leaving me with a delightful (and safe) flower bomb of my own to toss around. I likely won’t be blowing open any secret passages with it, but I’ll still have plenty of fun!
