Guess who finished their first pair of socks! I am incredibly proud of myself for having completed not only one sock but two. Once the size was figured out making the sock turned out not to be super hard – just tedious. I can say I will likely make another pair of socks in the future. I will also say that my dreams of knitting a pair of knee high cabled socks have been replaced with dreams of cute and comfy ankle socks. I know my limits. I may still make knee length cable socks, but it will likely be a long time from now.
You will likely note that the toes on my socks are different from both the rest of the sock and each other. Just between you and me, I had gotten two balls of yarn, figuring I would make one sock out of each ball. As it turned out, one ball of yarn was just a few inches too short to finish a sock. Rather than starting the second ball of yarn I had to finish the first sock, I decided to use another color to finish the toes – that way they would match better. Similarly, I had a little bit more yarn in the second ball of yarn, and decided that rather than keeping a little bit of sock yarn around it would be better to finish off the yarn and do the last bit in the toe color. While I like the color striping of the yarn and their comfy as socks, the yarn was rough on my hands when I was knitting, and with such thin yarn it was a lot of knitting.
Personally, I think the socks look pretty good. I won’t be wearing them out to any kind of fancy parties, but their warm and will be good socks for lounging around the house now that we’re getting into fall and winter.
