The second color went much quicker than the first. Despite my fears, I was able to tell the very dark blue from the black thread, so long as I had decent lighting. I’ve now made my way onto my third color, a dark green. I’m hopeful I’ll get more done soon, especially now that the green will be giving some real contrast to the black and dark navy colors.
I know I’m barely three colors into the pattern but I do like the way it looks already, and I’m hopeful I’ll continue to like it more and more the longer I work on it. It’d be a problem if I didn’t since I already know this is going to take a couple of years to finish!
On the audio book front: I’ve been listening to The Women of Wynton by Donna Mumma while working. It’s a murder mystery set in the 1950s focussing on four women who work at Wyntons department store. I haven’t been able to “put it down”, as far as you can’t put an audio book down, I just want to know what’s coming next! I’ve really loved the way the four main characters interact, and the way you discover more about them. Sometimes I’ve felt frustration with the characters. As an outsider looking in there are times when I shake my head, thinking the characters are trusting the wrong person or that they are making the wrong decisions, but at the same time the story is written in such a way that I understand the decisions being made.
I will say that while I’ve enjoyed the story it’s not paced the same way as most of the cozy mysteries I have read before. Usually the writer gives you maybe one or two chapters of set up so you know where the characters are at the start of the mystery and then the mystery proper kicks off. The set up takes longer in The Women of Wynton. It’s not a bad thing, but it is different and can throw you off if you’ve got pacing expectations for the story.
