On a Wing and a Prayer Shawl: The Finished Project

I finished the shawl!

That was probably obvious by the title of the post but I am very excited with how the shawl turned out. The colors look just as good as I had hoped and the edging turned out much nicer on the final project than I thought it would as I was working on it. I will admit that I had a few rough spots where I missed a stitch in the pattern and had to go back and undo a row or two, but I usually caught it in the row itself (usually because it was very noticeable once you were off pattern).

All the good news out of the way, I will say that it’s not all suns and roses. You might notice in the picture that the shawl looks more “scrunchy” then might be expected of a shawl. I thought this myself when I was working on the project, but I figured I could fix it in blocking. I have blocked the shawl and I am sad to say, it did not fix it. It doesn’t necessarily look bad but it is not the look I was hoping for.

Similarly, I was hoping that flattening out the “scrunchy” look would make the shawl larger. It was looking a little small when I was working on it, and it is still a little small. It’s large enough for me to wear, barely, but it is probably more “petit woman” or “child” sized, rather than me sized. I have taken this to mean the shawl is meant for someone else, rather than me. Since I like the pattern so much I will likely make the pattern again, probably with a yarn that will lay flatter.

Despite that, I am happy with how the shawl turned out and excited to work on my next project. Hopefully it will fit better than this one ended up doing.
